Debit versus Credit — What is the difference?
Credit and debit cards are a convenient way to pay for items without having to hassle with cash or checks. Both are usually widely accepted at most merchants and come with security features that can help prevent fraud. The biggest difference between a debit and credit card is where the funds that back the card are sourced.
A credit card allows you to borrow money from Members Choice or another financial institution that issues credit cards. The borrowed funds carry an interest rate you agree to pay along with the money spent on the card.
A debit card is funded or paid by deducting money directly from your checking account. In contrast to a credit card, debit cards won’t incur fees unless the cardholder overdraws the account. Using a debit card is a good way to stay on a budget and keep yourself aware of your account balance.

FAQs
Is my contactless card safe?
How do I keep my contactless card secure?
- Be careful where you keep your card. Card readers are usually waved at back pockets and purses when you are not looking; keep cards close and out of easy access for scanning.
- There are several RFID sleeves and wallets available for purchase. These products cover the card and scramble the signal to prevent scanning.
- Use a wallet app on your phone that is protected with a strong PIN. This means you can leave your card at home and safe from scanning.
- Set alerts on your card account and regularly check your balance in online banking. When you see something suspicious, turn your card off and alert Mastercard and/or Members Choice as soon as possible.
